Bournemouth and Poole conurbation was unusual for a large conurbation in that electricity supply was still in the hands of a private supplier, rather than a town corporation, at the time the supply of electricity was nationalised, in 1947. The Bournemouth & Poole Electricity Supply Company was adsorbed into the Southern Electricity Board at that point. "HT" refers to "High Tension" (i.e. high voltage) cables, rather than lower domestic voltage.
