Confession time 2: No idea who Peter is / was, but his name comes from "Petros", the Greek name itself derived from the word "petra" meaning rock or stone - and famously the name Jesus gave to his disciple Simon.

Incidentally, if you look left here you will see the white-painted tower of George Burt's lookout room, from where he (or his staff?) could keep an eye on the comings and goings of the stone boats across Swanage Bay.
