This "new" addition to Swanage's skyline is not new at all. Originally built in 1862 as a memorial to Queen Victoria's late husband Albert, it was located near the junction of Court Road and the High Street. Removed by developers in 1971 (although there's still room for it at that junction even now), it wasn't scrapped but dismantled and stored in Council buildings. However in 2021 it was re-erected on its present site, appropriately in Prince Albert Gardens.
