Even if a total stranger,
You could save a life in danger

what number should you quote?

628 (reference number on defibrillator device)
This is one of over 20 AED (Automatic External Defibrillators) dotted around Swanage, making it exceptionally well provided for. Heart disease is a "silent killer" - often people may not know they have heart problems until a heart attack. Then, every second counts, and you may be able to save a life by acting quickly. The defib machines are really, really easy to use, and require no medical training or skill to operate. If you think someone may be having a heart attack and are unconscious, call 999 and start CPR. Send someone (or go yourself if someone else is doing CPR) to get the defib machine. You'll need your phone to dial 999 for the access code; give the operator the reference code on the AED box. The machines talk you through in very easy steps (yes, they have a loudspeaker that tells you in plain English what to do), and are safe to use - they won't deliver a shock to the patient if one is not needed.
